You might by now have gathered that Borrowdale and its surrounding valleys are our favourite locations in the Lake District. Alfred Wainwright MBE, fell walker, guidebook author and illustrator described Borrowdale as “the loveliest square mile in the district”. He was not wrong. In May 2015 and having booked three nights accommodation at the Borrowdale Gates Hotel (www.borrowdale-gates.com) we were somewhat disappointed on checking the weather to find cloud and rain forecast for the period of our stay. However we need not have worried for a strong wind kept off the rain and numerous breaks in the cloud enabled the sun to shine through. The pictures were taken on the three walks and are sequential, so pull on your boots, shoulder your rucksack and join us.
