Thursday and Friday, the 20th and 21st of September.
Although we have visited Paris many times we have never visited the Palace of Versailles. On this occasion we decided to correct this omission. As you can see from the photographs the weather was superb with blue sky and sunshine. However the queues to gain admission were long and when we eventually entered the building it was packed. I seriously doubt that had a fire occurred a safe evacuation of the building would have been possible. We suggest that you give the inside tour of Versailles a miss or get there at break of day. If an early arrival is not possible then content yourself with the gardens and grounds which are seriously extensive and spectacular. The next day we headed for our favourite square, Place Dauphine and then walked the left bank as far as the Eiffel Tower. In the afternoon it rained, the first rain whilst walking a city in the entire holiday.
