In late September and early October we visited Japan, travelled at 186 miles per hour on the famous Bullet Train from Tokyo to Hiroshima and stood under the epicentre of the world's first A bomb detonation used to deliberately kill people, crossed by ferry to Miyajima Island and slept on the floor at a traditional Ryokan. We retraced our steps and travelled by Bullet train to the city of Kyoto, visited the many temples and historic buildings and enjoyed a traditional tea ceremony before travelling to Nara to see the Todaiji Temple. From Kyoto we took a scenic rail journey via Nagoya through spectacular gorges, past forests and tea plantations to Takayama. We then travelled to the Hakone National Park and by funicular railway and cable car to the Owakundani sulphurous hot springs where we viewed Mount Fuji, unobscured by cloud, before returning to Tokyo. To add to your enjoyment, a sound track recorded on the journey accompanies the slide show.
