Sunday, 14 September, by train to Venezia.
Depart Lecce at 8.13 by Frecciabianca FB9819, arrive Bologna Centrale 15.14, depart Bologna Centrale 16.10 by Frecciargento FA9430, arrive Venezia Santa Lucia at 17.35.
Our hotel for three nights was the Canal Grande, Santa Croce, Campo San Simeone Grande, 30135 Venezia.

I must admit that I included Venezia in the itinerary simply because it could be easily visited on our journey from Lecce to Lauterbrunnen and it seemed a pity to miss it when so close. I expected to see rising damp on a grand scale, squelchy routes between buildings and be able to smell the canal water if not the drains. I couldn't have been more wrong. Yes there is certainly much rising damp but that's what you would expect with a city built literally feet above sea level and with areas prone to flooding. Venezia is seriously photogenic and many pictures were taken. As is our normal way of seeing things we walked everywhere, never smelt anything untoward and I cannot remember ever seeing a puddle.
