On the fourteenth of August 2011 Crich Tramway Museum was caught in a 1940s time warp. The streets were crowded with vehicles of the period with soldiers and civilians dressed accordingly. Air raid warning sirens sounded at regular intervals and the sound of exploding bombs did little to engender a feeling of safety and security. Even Winston Churchill and Field Marshal Montgomery made a timely appearance to boost flagging morale. Identity cards were asked for and examined by officers of the law patrolling the streets and having a ration card was a prerequisite to being served in one of the village shops. And a good time was had by all.
